A Community Treasure Needs Our Help
Outdoor recreation for people of all abilities has been possible in our community because of All Out Adventures of Northampton. Their mission statement is to promote health, community and independence for people with disabilities and their family and friends through outdoor recreation. They are in a financial crisis and need community support now more than ever.
Since their founding in 2001, they have paddled, hiked, skied, skated, camped, and more with thousands of people throughout Massachusetts. Their programs are open to people of all ages, experience levels, and abilities. Most of the programs are either no cost to participants or are a very nominal fee. As All Out Adventures breaks down the barriers to participation in outdoor recreation, they strive to ensure that cost is not a barrier.
Our local land trusts are responding. With a history of being dedicated to increasing our community’s participation in outdoor activities, Hilltown Land Trust, Kestrel Land Trust, and Franklin Land Trust are organizing a hike to benefit All Out Adventures. It will take place on the trails of Hilltown Land Trust’s Breckenridge Sanctuary near the Goshen/ Williamsburg boundary line. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to All Out Adventures for their courageous, groundbreaking steps toward inclusion.
The woodland Breckenridge Trail is a moderate hike with roots underfoot and several steep hills. It takes less than an hour to complete. It is not a universally accessible trail. If you own walking poles, you may want to bring them. Also, bring water, bug repellent, and a snack.
Well-socialized dogs on leashes are welcome. Their people are expected to clean up after them.
Preregistration is appreciated but not required. Volunteers are needed. Contact email: HLToutreach@thetrustees.org or call 413-628-4485 ext 4.
Donations will be collected at the event and may be paid with cash, credit card or check written out to All Out Adventures. If you are unable to attend this hike but wish to donate to All Out Adventures, you may do so on their website and include a note that it is for this hike or send a check directly to them and reference this hike.
